It's not a small task, especially if you're the only developer of a (not)game. You have to be the coder, artist, musician, sound designer, writer and likely the beta tester. And learn any software you may need and create a workflow. Basically, take any job you've ever done and multiply it half a dozen times or more.

I disagree.
You can have virtually or truly no soundtrack in your interactive piece (for various, even the most artistic reasons; best example of another medium that done that ages ago would be first person perspective "Lady from the Lake" (1947) with virtually no soundtrack and rarely shown main character (the movie would be likely to inspire FPS genre in video games if only game developers watched anything but movies in their neighbourhood friendly multiplexes)).
You can have virtually no art and animation, who is going to stop you? Hell, you can make characters out of fonts.
You need no writing if you plan on creating a storyless piece.

All in all, in the humble opinion of this boardmember, all that you HAVE to be is 4 of those people (if you consider user interface as artist's job).

Seriously, the only prison of your imagination that exists in this universe is the one which you are willing to create. Sometimes, constantly and endlessly.

I disliked the fight passages (...) and instead I just wished to keep exploring the world quietly.

So many people have this experience.

About this: Small Worlds.
I remember that when I tried it I was often finding exit before exploring whole stage and actually prefered to explore the whole stage before moving to next one. It also has beautiful music that, as always music does when written well for a work, helps to believe that the world is believable, or at least intriguing.

What I also like about that is that many people (incl. me, I must confess) seem to think that only 3D reality gives possibility of exploration. And this guy did it with 2D, not even RPG style. That's what I find impressive.

In my free time i particularly enjoy writing gaming story lines based odd or subversive game mechanics. My ultimate goal would be to write and develop a game which 'accurately' simulates time travel from a participators perspective.

I've seen it soon after it was released. Perhaps the most difficult and deep movie of Hideaki Anno ever. Worth watching but be warned that it is nothing less but a live action equivalent of "End of Evangelion" without complex plot and 60 metre Evangelions. It's all about humans here, and it is difficult and real.

I find the concept of "Giants" really great but I myself was rather confused of what sort of message I should leave there. And looking for what people have left (at the time when I did it, too) I wasn't the only one. Plus, my observation is that gamers do not work very well as "leavers-of-wise-messages" Wink

I've seen it some time ago. Great piece of animation (just like Tarboy, also available on newgrounds).
Honestly, I don't really see a way to make a (not)game out of it. At least not something that would be as fresh and as meaningful as Pigpen without being the same at the same time.

I find things like Pigpen too well told and too intimate/personal to tell them again. Sometimes cinema does a mistake like that. Best things based on other things are these things that are based on things that have potential but turned to be very average. Like animated psychological thriller "Perfect Blue" (1997). Or "Shawshank Redemption" that I believe movie is much better than the story.

Learning some vocabulary won't kill you. It enables you, actually. The dictionary is a great companion.

"Overintellectual" talking doesn't really add quality to the content. If you can't say something using simple words you most likely have no skills to discuss and definitely not to create definitions.

"Brilliant" 'The Precession of Simulacra' is a great example. How much do you understand from these 4 words? Or do you fancy spending time reading dictionary realizing that author was too lazy to write things clear so the pleasure of being not lazy (double time!) is all yours.

I don't really think that it has anything to do with age. There are older (than you) lecturers who haven't lost their edge yet and they are still passionate about what and how they pass the knowledge to students (means: it is far from being dry or boring).

I have to agree that your way of seeing academic lecturing is boring. Not fucking boring, but just boring. It's actually something that I was strongly opposing to while I was a student, sir!
