That's what put me off it as well. I'm not very interested in allowing things to be posted on my Facebook since I find similar things taking up my wall very annoying myself, and I don't have a Twitter.

Extra Credits occassionally have some nice things to say, even if it is a very gamer-centered show.

It would indeed be nice to abandon many (or all) standard game-mechanics, but if I had to choose between the current situation in gaming or "standard game-mechanics used for other things than just combat" I'd choose the latter without hesitation. (I'm not saying there aren't such games, they just seem to be in minority.)

I think that even if it's not where I'd like to end up (or what I'd personally want to do), it's a step in the right direction simply by allowing other topics than mindless violence to be explored.

(Off-topic) Anecdote/blabbering:
Constantly when viewing my small "game"-projects, classmates and others started asking what kind of enemies there'd be and what you were supposed to do. Upon learning that I didn't intend there to be any fighting they'd all go "Well, that's not much fun.".
That's when I stopped using the word "game" and started using "interactive painting" instead.

The concept of only getting one chance is interesting. I've toyed with the idéa previously, though not to this extreme degree. I've seen a similar idéa in Execution by 2dcube as well, but I think this does it better.

As for the actual theme and concept of the game, it didn't really speak to me. I was completely certain what was the right decision to do in any similar situation, not much of a moral quandry there. Some of it also felt quite illogical and characters sometimes felt stupid. Apart from that (and the graphics), interesting idéa.

You can walk on the grey "path". Everywhere else, you fall down.

I think the disjointed look of everything generally works very well, but not so much for the path. Probably since it's a bit different and more smooth than the other things, yet still butchered up in pieces.

Yeah, I just wrote the first thing that came to mind. I hope you still understand what I mean, though.

Being, to some extent, one of those boring engineering guys myself, I can still understand the need for more graphical programming. However, even if I, and many others, understand the need for it, I would still be unable to do such a system. Mainly cause I can't visualize how such a system would work. I would mainly think of how to visualize and represent the code graphically. But that's not what we want. A little box representing an if-case is still an if-case, despite its graphical representation. We need a more fundamental change, which I'm afraid programmers just won't be able to do. Not necessarily because they think it would be stupid/unnecessary or think their way is always the best.

As I understand it, you basically just frame a web page in there. So you could probably even do 3D Unity games on Facebook.
There are two approaches. One is simply framing a webpage. The other is a bit more advanced.
88  General / Everything / Re: Rant: videogames are so childish on: September 11, 2010, 11:13:51 PM
I've looked at the Facebook API a bit and generally, you can do anything you can do in HTML/PHP, including Flash and Java. So, yes, 3D is possible. (At least, that's what I got from it.)

However, to integrate well with Facebook, it should probably have some kind of social aspect. Like, in a game wherein you walk around and explore a world, you could "Share this location with a friend", or something.

Technically, you don't really have to include any social aspect at all, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a Facebook game. (And something that shows up on an user's wall is bound to attract more viewers Wink )
89  General / Check this out! / Re: An article about not assuming what players will definatley do on: September 11, 2010, 12:13:32 PM
Great article. It reminds me a bit of how children or young teenagers who start to watch "grown up" movies often have a hard time understanding everything. They often miss things that are clearly hinted to, and when they realize this they tend to ask questions about all kinds of things, including things that have yet to be revealed.
My mother does that as well.
90  General / Everything / Re: Rant: videogames are so childish on: September 11, 2010, 11:20:30 AM
Well, not so much just move to Facebook as a medium but perhaps do something for it to find the audience and get them to know more about us and our goals. I'm not saying we should compromise our artistic values, but if you're doing a project that might fit for Facebook, then why not look into releaseing a version of it there, as well?

That's not that different from eg. making a web version of Vanitas.
