So, perhaps if we didn't name our "games".
92  Creation / Reference / Re: Peter Molyneux's Milo and Kate on: August 31, 2010, 05:55:13 PM
I feel that doing things around Milo rather than with him feels quite natural, really. At least when I hang out with friends we tend to do a lot of stuff together. The problem is not doing things around him, the problem is (I think) that he doesn't seems to be that involved with them.

The idéa of a "real" character that changes depending on the players' actions is interesting. The natural way of doing this is with a child, as children are usually more impressionate than adults, who seem to be stuck in the same ways. Otherwise the change might be too slow to notice or simply not feel very natural. Pedophilia has hardly anything to do with it. I, for one, would be interested in this concept, if it worked well, without any inclination of fapping to it.

I know many adults who know computers very well (programmers etc.) but don't play games. I don't think video games are a result of the main audience as much as the main audience is a result of video games.

The collision is a bit off. It looks weird to bump into the wall at such a distance.

I feel like the level is unnecessarily big. Either make it more varied, by adding more environment objects to it or make it smaller. I was, quite honestly, rather bored while playing.

It has potential, but currently with a few quite obvious flaws.

The demo looked interesting apart from all the cartoony scores that popped up. I'm also very skeptical to whether it works as well as he claims it does.

Glad you're liking it.

I actually have it up on bandcamp here: http://pseudorandom.bandcamp.com/. I didn't at the time of the post though, seeing as uploading something to Bandcamp takes me quite a while due to the size of the files.

I'll probably have a listen to your work tomorrow.

That's easy: add "skip" functionality to each gameplay bit.
Nintendo are working on it/have some games that do.

I really noticed this today as I entered "Stalker" into YouTube's search field. Did I get clips from the masterpiece by Tarkovsky? No! I got trailers and clips from a game based on it... It involved gun-wielding zombies, constant gunfires and military helicopters. Have you really no respect for the source material whatsoever?

Edit: Weltschmerz.
100  General / Check this out! / Re: The Future of Tourism as glimpsed in Assassin's Creed 2 on: August 12, 2010, 04:06:57 PM
A local company whose stuff I looked at (had the chance for a small summer job, which I had to refuse, sadly) were working on a 3D-environment of the whole city of Malmö, Sweden based on descriptions from 14xx. (The king wanted to see if there were any resources for war, so he wrote down descriptions of the whole city*, from the colour of the window sills to what sort of wood the doors were made of.) It was very interesting and I think it could really serve a purpose in education and "tourism".

*Well, he gave the orders...

I sure wouldn't mind a PS3. Wink

I agree with the sentiment. I think the world built up in Assasin's Creed is really amazing but I just can't stand the game. To me, it seems a bit counterproductive to build such a vivid world just to make the player kill it. (Sure, you're meant to be an assasin and at that time there were quite a few political murders, etc. but it seems like everyone in the whole city hires you to do all their dirty work.)

All new technology starts off as complex, expensive and inefficient.

To me, it seems like Mark Rein came with criticism (although not very good one, in my opinion) at a bad time, to which Harries responded with immature personal attacks.

I found that interview very interesting. I especially like the part where he says that if we could already describe the emotion with a word, then there wouldn't be any need for a game. I've primarily focused on capturing emotions that are not usually expressed in games. What if we could provoke an emotion that has not been expressed in any non-interactive media either?
105  General / Introductions / Re: Hello ngf on: June 17, 2010, 07:24:06 PM
Interesting. I'd love doing more stuff with sound. I've done randomized MIDI notes as well as MIDI notes generated from images. Neither had any kind of music theory attached, though, so it all sounded horrible. I'd love doing something with a bit of theory behind it, or putting the user in more control. (The music theory part might be tricky, partly since I don't know anything about it myself.)
