Bientôt l'été was not selected for IndieCade. Neither was Flight of the Fireflies or Mandalarium.

Did any of you submit games or know of any less gamey games that were submitted and rejected?

I'm sad. Not just for ourselves. But because IndieCade has always been the more open of the game festivals. And that time may be over now that the selection is firmly on game-games. Here's a grasp from the descriptions of the nominees:

Quote
a console RPG-like game
an unpublished board game
a fast, frantic touch game
a point'n'click adventure game
an abstract puzzle game
a surreal puzzle platformer
a spaceship simulation rogue-like game
a unique puzzle
a Metroid-vania style action-platformer
a two-player hyper-interactive, physical game
a race management sim
a re-imagining of the classic video game Pong
a stealth-adventure
an experimental and artistic puzzler
a two on two playground game of strategy and finesse
a 2-4-player, single stick competitive coop shooter
an action-platformer
a b-boy style dance battle game

Looking at the nominees,

"The Stanley Parable", is pretty much a not game

"Dreams of Your Life", at least has some aspiration to be a mature game. I tried playing it though, but were not in the mood Smiley

"Botanicula", is not that gamey, but more playing around? Or perhaps I misunderstood it.

"Analogue: A Hate Story", is more of a visual novel. (not played it, but have it on the play-list).

So not that bad?

I guess I had expected more. I must have been too optimistic about the recent growing maturity of videogames. I'm so tired of all this game-playing. It's not fun anymore. It's pathetic.
